A rare interview with the man behind TOBACCO and Black Moth Super Rainbow
A24’s The Death of Dick Long was one of the more talked about films to come out of Sundance this year. This is the first feature-length directorial effort from Daniel Scheinert (1/2 of Daniels, the directing duo responsible for the wonderfully-absurd Swiss Army Man). Dick Long features Daniel himself playing the titular role, as well as the hilarious Andre Hyland (Relaxer, the 4th), Virginia Newcomb and Michael Abbott Jr.
The film opens in select cities on September 27.
Here’s a lost track from pop starlet Lorde from a couple of years back. Produced by Yoni Wolf of WHY?. The two connected on Twitter, and Yoni learned that she was a fan. In addition to producing this track, Yoni also conducted a great interview with her for his Wandering Wolf podcast, which you can listen to, in full, here.
Jel & Odd Nosdam just surprise released a new project that has been in the works for the past 7 years. Recorded throughout Northern California’s East Bay between 2012-2019, the project features production wizardy from both of the aforementioned producers, as well as vocal contributions from Joji Kojima, Martin Carlos Ward and Jel himself. The record is gritty and full of trunk rattlers. If you’re a fan of any of these guys, you’re going to dig this. It may even make your week. The whole record is available for free download right here.

Just like this blog right here…Bay Area band Mwahaha has been fairly quiet for some time. In addition to focusing on some other projects (vocalist Ross Peacock has been spending a lot of his time performing with Zachary James Watkins as Watkins/Peacock), they sadly lost their dear bandmate, visual artist Cyrus Tilton to cancer in 2017. Fortunately, Cyus had already recorded some of the initial ideas that ended up helping to shape this amazing record.
The track above is just a taste of what you’ll hear when their new record Lovers comes out in September.
RIYL: LCD Soundsystem, Soulwax, Kraftwerk, David Bowie
Mark Jenkins' sculptures are a sight to behold. Witnessing them in all their glory in person is absolutely fascinating. Using a combination of saran wrap and tape, he makes life-size replicas of humans and various other objects that seem real until you're right up close.
His work has been perceived to be SO realistic, that people often call the police, concerned that someone is actually in one of the predicaments that Mark has staged his sculpture. Somehow, I think Mark relishes this, as part of the reason he places his work in the street is to see how people interact with it.
You can see many more of Mark's impressive creations here.
