I’m not sure how I hadn’t heard about this before. I was perusing the Kickstarter documentary section, as one does, and discovered this page for The Butthole Surfers Movie, a project that nearly tripled its fundraising goal at the start of this year.
While you can rest assured that a film about these Texas weirdos /maniacs/geniuses is sure to be pretty crazy, you can also count on it being done well. The film is in the loving hands of their longtime friend Tom Stern, who directed the 90s cult classic film Freaked with Alex Winter. Bonus points for getting Scott Crawford (Salad Days, CREEM: America’s Only Rock’n’Roll Magazine) on board as consulting producer. This is a must-watch.
