Tucson, AZ seems to have a unique atmosphere that nurtures creativity, especially when it comes to the prolific talents of the Hose brothers. Zack (Zackey Force Funk) and Nate (N8NOFACE) both left Tucson years ago, and landed themselves in LA county, and both of them are releasing new music at such a steady clip, I can hardly keep up.
Earlier this year, they combined their efforts on a new project called Delta Weapon, and rumor has it, they’re both working on a new Demon Queen album with TOBACCO.
Today, Zack released The L.A. Darkwave Tape as the inaugural release from his own Electron Don Records imprint. It’s a return to some of his earlier minimal synth-inspired releases, and features yet another collaboration with his brother, who produced and features on the opening track.
His official blurb about the release sums it up better than I can:
Ten new DIRTY indie/cult/goth songs by Zackey Force Funk. All lo-fi tracks written, recorded, sampled and edited by Zackey Force Funk. (Intro produced, co-written and recorded by N8NOFACE).
This new Darkwave compilation reflects on Zackey’s other love of music besides boogie and funk. Whether it’s the synth-punk style of N8NOFACE or the lo-fi edits of obscure 1980s new wave,..all songs have Zackey’s signature vocals on Los Angeles’ newest Darkwave sound.
Physical copies limited to 200 cassettes on Electron Don Records 1st release ever. Now available on all digital platforms.A few months back, I shared the above song, “California Cocaine” in my Substack newsletter. I had thought about posting a different song here, but realized that posting it only to my newsletter subscribers, it was only being shared with a limited audience. This song is the one I keep going back to, so I had to share it here. This whole release, clocking in at just under 30 mins, is excellent.
