Artist David Jaguttis over at UGSMAG has been running his underground hip hop-focused website for over 20 years now. Not too long ago, he decided to start putting out physical (and digital) copies of a UGSMAG zine. In it, he has friends, artists, musicians, and mutual fans contributing to make up quite an interesting piece of tangible reading material. It’s like an indie version of Interview magazine.
I’ve been honored to have contributed to 3 of the issues so far. First was a feature on one of my recent favorite MCs in the underground rap scene ELEMXNT. For the next issue, I landed the cover story with my interview with N8NOFACE, and for Volume 7, the most recent issue, I interviewed my friend P-Minus of ATAK Distribution fame. Volume 7 also features: Moka Only, Masta Ace & Marco Polo, Controller 7, J.M. Harper (director of ‘As We Speak’), Memorecks, and a Gajah biography.
While the emphasis is on the physical copies of the zine, David has also made digital copies available for sale. You can get all the current and back issues of the zine in whatever medium floats your boat over at ugsmag.com
