Mwahaha - "Sundown" by Matt Valerio

Just like this blog right here…Bay Area band Mwahaha has been fairly quiet for some time. In addition to focusing on some other projects (vocalist Ross Peacock has been spending a lot of his time performing with Zachary James Watkins as Watkins/Peacock), they sadly lost their dear bandmate, visual artist Cyrus Tilton to cancer in 2017. Fortunately, Cyus had already recorded some of the initial ideas that ended up helping to shape this amazing record.

The track above is just a taste of what you’ll hear when their new record Lovers comes out in September.

I Come To Shanghai is a hard band to describe. They sort of have their own thing going on. Sam Frigard and Robert Ashley moved from Oakland, CA in 2010 to Atlanta, GA where they could focus on their synth-based, somewhat psychedelic music full time. The result is their recently-released Eternal Life, Vol 1 record. These guys are both extremely talented, and deserve a lot more attention than they get. I guarantee you will be hearing more about Mwahaha in the coming months. This Oakland 4-piece blends crazy psychedelia with analog drum machines and thick synth lines, making for an all-out aural treat that deserves repeated headphone listens. Their self-titled record (out December 6) features indie darling Merrill Garbus of tUnE-YarDs, and was mixed and partially recorded by Eli Crews (Deerhoof, Tune-Yards, WHY?, Restiform Bodies). Anticon's Jel and Odd Nosdam are both currently confirmed for remixes in the near future as well. Keep an eye on these guys.  You can also preview another great track from their record called "Poinsettia" over at their Bandcamp page. twitter facebook
