Mwahaha - "Sundown" by Matt Valerio

Just like this blog right here…Bay Area band Mwahaha has been fairly quiet for some time. In addition to focusing on some other projects (vocalist Ross Peacock has been spending a lot of his time performing with Zachary James Watkins as Watkins/Peacock), they sadly lost their dear bandmate, visual artist Cyrus Tilton to cancer in 2017. Fortunately, Cyus had already recorded some of the initial ideas that ended up helping to shape this amazing record.

The track above is just a taste of what you’ll hear when their new record Lovers comes out in September.

Futurisk - "Army Now" by Matt Bomarr

Futurisk was a synthpop band from Florida who were mostly active in the late '70's/early 80's. Their Player Piano EP is probably their most well-known release, which was recently re-released as Player Piano LP on Minimal Wave records last year. James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) is also a big fan. You can hear a slight variation of this song in the video right here. buy

I'll be honest, a lot of the submissions I get for this blog just don't fit, but every once in a while, something comes through that I absolutely love. Austin's Superlitebike impressed me. This track, "Unbelievable Party!!! Cool" not only impressed me with it's title, but also with the fact that it's an upbeat party track a la LCD Soundsystem. They have a new record coming out in May called Away We Go. Follow them on Twitter to get updated when the record drops.

Magic Arm - "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House" by Matt Bomarr

A great cover of LCD Soundsystem's hit by UK musician Marc Rigelsford (aka Magic Arm). He recorded most of the intstruments on his new record Make Lists, Do Something, aside from some of the brass and drums. Overall, the new record is pretty great. Some catchy pop songs on there. He's become sort of a master of the loop pedal, and has often played shows on his own, but he has now started taking a full band on the road with him to help flesh things out a bit more. Check out the album if you get a chance.

Whitey - "Can't Go Out, Can't Stay In" / "Wrap It Up" by Matt Bomarr

Whitey is from London. He's a highly respected multi-instrumentalist who has recorded a few albums of his own, and done official remixes for Bloc Party, Cut Copy, Soulwax and Chromeo."Can't Go Out, Can't Stay In" is a mellow, summer day sort of song from his album The Light at the End of the Tunnel Is a Train. "Wrap It Up" is more upbeat and dancey, and is from the album Great Shakes, which, due to a very early leak on the internet, was never officially released. Recommended if you like LCD Soundsystem.
