Virgil Howe - "B-Boy Bounce" by Matt Bomarr

virgil howe - "b-boy bounce" (download) (removed)

This is from a collaborative digital 12" from drummers Virgil Howe (Killer Meters) and Malcolm Catto (Heliocentrics, Quantic Soul Orchestra). As you can expect, it's heavy on the drums. The A-side, "B-Boy Bounce"  features only Virgil, while the B-side features both drummers.

MRR-ADM - "9ine" by Matt Bomarr

Some brand new stuff from MRR-ADM (Michael Raymond Russell & Adam Douglas Manella). A mysterious new 12-track "promo" release called Archive recently popped up, supposedly a bunch of new tracks that are meant for licensing for movies, tv shows, etc. As always, these guys come through with some really hard hitting, dark, drum-centric tracks. I can't get enough of this stuff. I don't believe you can actually purchase this quite yet, but if you ever do find it, buy it. Check out their website, where you can play some drums of your own with your keyboard.

Clutchy Hopkins - "3:02" by Matt Bomarr

A mysterious cloud hangs over all things Clutchy. The man released The Life of Clutchy Hopkins out of the blue via Ubiquity Records back in 2006, and to this day, he has still remained anonymous. There's somewhat of a cult following for this man, largely in part because of the mystique surrounding him, but also in part to the quality of all the music he's released to date ...including Walking Backwards, Music Is My Medicine, Clutch of the Tiger (with Shawn Lee), and the lesser-known The Misled Children Meet Odean Pope. People have speculated that he is none other than DJ Shadow, or maybe Cut Chemist, or maybe even one of the Beastie Boys. Clutchy's bio claims that he is a middle-aged man, former close friend of Moondog, who lives in a cave in the Mojave desert. It's a really fasinating world to get wrapped up in. Do a google search and see for yourself. This site has some great info about him, and it's a great place to start. Check out his Misled Children releases here and here

Hangedup - "Klang Klang" by Matt Bomarr

Hangedup is/was a two-piece band from Montreal consisting of Genevieve Heistek of Sackville on viola, and Eric Craven (now of Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra La La Band) on drums and percussion. Most of their stuff is fairly high energy, and very unique stuff. I'm not sure they're around anymore, as they haven't released anything since 2005, but I'd highly recommend any of their records if you're into this type of thing.
